1) Can gymnastics help my child be more successful in school?
Yes it can!
Heavy Work is the phrase used in the therapy world to describe
activities that demand moving large muscles and the compression of joints. Vaulting, hanging, flipping, climbing, and
leaping are excellent examples of Heavy Work opportunities for children. Heavy Work activities are one way to improve
focus of the brain. Focusing more easily
leads to learning more easily.
Other types of
movement that encourage brain development are swinging, twisting, and
rolling. The back and forth movement
that occurs in swinging, rotational movement that happens in twisting, and the
up and over movement that is used in rolling assist the vestibular system
develop properly. The vestibular system
is the sensory system that helps coordinate movement with balance.
